Equity Buckets in GTO Flop Strategies

Essence
Equity buckets are a way of grouping hands by their equity percentage against an opponent’s range. This allows for a quick assessment of range strength on the flop and helps make correct strategic decisions (bet/check, bet sizing, etc.).
Key Principles
- Equity is divided into 4 categories:
- Best hands: 75–100% equity
- Good hands: 50–75%
- Weak hands: 33–50%

Trash hands: 0–33%

These groups help determine:
- Best hands advantage — how many nut/very strong hands we have.
- Overall range strength.

How well the range interacts with the board texture.

Flop strategies correlate with equity bucket distribution:
- Many best hands → frequent betting
- Many good/weak hands → more checking
- Trash hands → rare betting, mostly fold/check

Examples of Use
- UTG on A-J-T board:
- Most of the range is best/good hands.

- Advantage to BB.
